Extract from 1st Barlaston Boy Scout Group’s 1st AGM held Monday 26th October 1959

“The Chairman and Group Scoutmaster – Mr Brown, outlined the history of Scouting in Barlaston, beginning with the first troop started by Mr Tom Wedgwood in 1933. The war in 1939 saw the breakup of this troop.

In 1949 a number of Barlaston boys joined the Tittensor troop but this troop eventually broke up also.

When the present troop was formed there was need for a headquarters and as the Tittensor hut was derelict, negotiations were put in hand for its acquisition.

The group committee was formed in December 1958 and funds were raised to enable the transfer of the hut to its new site to be carried out.”

The old hut from Tittensor was relocated to Duke’s Walk, repaired, renovated and officially opened on 12th September 1959.

Whilst many repairs and renovations have occurred over the years the main body of the hut if nearing 100 years old!
